Don't they look like cute little chef hats?
It's love at first sight when I saw these cuties at Muffins Are Ugly Cupcakes. Mix 5 ingredients together, into the oven and wait for them to Pop! So easy and yet so pretty!
I made them for breakfast yesterday. I like them with jam and butter. Muffins Are Ugly Cupcakes suggested to drizzle them with honey or dust them with icing sugar or even melt some cheese over. I had a few leftovers from breakfast and I used them to mop up the sauce from our chicken stew dinner. Mega YUM!
Mr J think they are very milky and taste like French Toast. I reckon they are like Yorkshire Pudding. I hope I have tempted you enough to make them today and tell me what you think :p

I saw these on Martha Stewart a couple of weeks ago and she was banging on about having the right pan for it, but doing them like that is great! They're an American settler breakfast so I'm SURE they didn't have special pans back then lol... you could even use tin cans I reckon?
oh wow - theyy rose so much!
is the trick to blast p the temp for the last half of the oven part?
Those are so cute! I love the containers you've used too. Saw a popover pan for sale recently and was tempted, though I didn't think I'd make them often enough to justify the purchase.
Adorable and exactly like little chef hats!
Wishing I made this for breakfast today!
These are adorable. I grew up with popovers and could eat them by the dozen!
Wow I've never seen these before but they look like such an easy and delicious brekky :)
oooh..I'll devour anything that tastes like French Toast! They look too yum.
Oh yes, I saw them at Felicia's and now you made them too! They are adorable, and I agree they remind me of yorkshire pudding. I must make these soon ... good things come in threes. Heheh! Beautiful popovers, Ellie! Julia Child would be proud ;)
I agree with you Ellie - they are damn cute and remind me of cheesy yorkshire puddings... you are on to something really great here!
Looks like little chef hats. So cute! Little ones means that I will finish them all in no time.
Ooh, these look so interesting! Such a large "pop" but they are hollow inside! Did you make them in paper muffin cases? It's hard to tell!
heehee. yay to cute chef hats!
love how yours look.
AWESOME BREAKFAST RIGHT?!
damnnn i feel like making more now.
toooo cute! now I HAVE to make these for Thanksgving dinner :) Nice photos.
Mmmm! Those look so cute! I've been on a big bread/baking kick lately. Can't wait to try them!
I love to make popovers. Have never tried Julia's though. I make some that you put in a cold oven and it works too!
One reason we eat at Neiman Marcus is to get a popover ata lunch!
awww they are so cute!! I love to see things puff up in the oven.
Hehe! They do look like chefs hats! So cute! They kind of look like a puffy as well... I'm definitely going to give this a try! :)
We make them almost every Saturday. We use a recipe from the Moosewood cookbook. We've found the key is to preheat the pan, butter generously and then pour the batter in. We serve them with whipped cream and fruit. Yogurt or jam is also good. You really can't go wrong! So good. Our kids LOVE them.
Yum! Btw,I gave you an Over the Top award over at my blog. No need to give out other awards unless you want to. I just wanted to acknowledge your awesome blog.
These look poppin' fresh -- and adorable! How could someone not love these??
@ Liss: Martha Stewart is always very meticulous :) I just used paper muffin cases. It still works.
@ Betty: They pops during the first half of the baking time with higher temp. 2nd half with lower temp to firm up the inside.
@ Y: Thanks! They are green paper muffin cases. Julia's recipe didn't call for special pan. :p
@ Delightfullysweet: Thanks! Never too late :)
@ Julia: Thanks. I like staring at them as they pop!
@ Jacq: Yup. So easy! I don't like to spend a long time in kitchen in the morning. So this is perfect.
@ Adrian: Thanks! I reckon they taste more like Yorkshire Pudding though :)
@ The Little Teochew: Hahaha! Ju, you are too funny! Can't wait to see yours :)
@ Trissa: Thanks!!
@ Penny: They are little but very filling! Lots of flour, milk and eggs....
@ Rilsta: Yay, it's fun how they pop! I used green polka-dots paper muffin cases. They are straighter and taller than the normal muffin cases. Perfect for these popovers to give the little chef hat effects.
@ Muffinsareuglycupcakes: Hehe...Felicia, my next project will be your Polo biscuits. Tried them in Hong Kong and love them very much :p
@ Amelia: Thanks!!
@ Rose: They are too cute not to try :)
@ Barbara: Papovers are almost unheard of in Australia. This is the first time I made them, such a hits with my family. It's going into my faovurite recipe folder.
@ pigpigscorner: Pop moment is the best... also the feet rising from macarons moment :)
@ Betty: They are too adorable not to make them :)
@ Debra Lynn: Thansk for sharing! I am new to these popovers and I am absolutely addicted to them already.
@ Ninette: Thanks for the award. You are too kind!!! Yay!!!
What great kids friendly treats!
beautiful popovers. Julia will be proud :)))!!
They look so light and airy. Fab job Ellie.
@ Mrs Ergul: It's indeed!
@ Zurin: Haha! Thanks!
@ A cupcake or two: Thanks, Kath!
I was looking between the 2 posted recipes on you pages but the one you made in a muffin tin has the recipe standing for 20 minutes or such. What is the reason for the standing time in the other recipe and no standing time in this one?
I have been making this recipe for a while and love how simple it is. I throw all the ingredients in the blender, stop to scrape the sides and then run it real quick again. (I believe the TV episode where Julia Childs made this, she too used the blender). I use a muffin pan and fill every other hole so that they don't interfere with each other when they "pop".
